If the Council on Foreign Relations says so, who can doubt it! It’s time to invest in Winnipeg Wineries!

Trust us, we’re a political party

The Canadian Press: Tory database draws ire of privacy experts for including constituency files
Here’s the key bit: Refering to the use of constituent information by a politicial party as a, “…clear breach of standard privacy ethics – but probably not the law…” the story highlights one of the key stumbling blocks for building privacy enabling systems. The data is too easy to collect and too easy to use.

This is especially true for political parties. It should be noted in passing that one of the of exemptions to the upcoming/maybe soon/maybe never Canadian Do Not Call list is political parties.

The next time I talk to the constituency office of any of my representatives (City, Province, or Federal) I’ll make sure to ask what they do with the information they collect.

No blogging lately, as my time is going in to writing a reasonable coherent version of wunderlich.ca, of which the blog is just one component.

The View from Montebello

At the Gates of Fortress North America | The Dominion

Just catching up on some blog reading and noticed this photo-essay from Montebello.  How have things changed such that images likes this, from Canada, aren’t generally seen as outrageous and offensive abuse of power?

Student Tasered at campus forum for Kerry – CNN.com

Tuesday, September 18th, 2007

According to CNN a University of Floriday student identified as Andrew Meyer was tasered at a campus forum for John Kerry, who is quoted as saying, “I regret enormously that a good healthy discussion was interrupted”. The student has a web site and an apparent history of pranksterism – a very healthy trait in a university student. His crime? Asking Kerry about impeaching Bush and whether they were both members of the Skull and Bones society!

I wonder what I would have to ask any of the candidates in the current Ontario election to get tasered?

Howard Hampton (NDP) : “What are your plans if the real socialists ever come back?”

John Tory (Conservative) : “Are you planning to be as successful as Kim Campbell, whose campaign you ran?”

Dalton McGuinty (Liberal, incumbent Premier): “I have a question about your charisma. Where is it?”

On the other hand maybe the Ontario Provincial Police purchased the left over pepper spray from when Jean Chretien was Prime Minister?

Background working today

Other than a great walk at Ashbridge’s Bay Park, and the usual Sunday errands, was working on some of the back end stuff today.

The Statesman and Paris Hilton

Friday, September 14th, 2007

According to The Statesman, Paris Hilton is sueing Hallmark cards for ‘mocking her’ in a cartoon sketch. It goes on to say that, “Hilton says she is tired of being publicly ridiculed and believes she is a ‘good person’.”

My ironometer just got redlined. Or is it just me that sees some irony in a person famous for being famous complaining about being famous?

Note to self: One should feel ashamed for putting Paris Hilton in a blog entry just to get the hits, so insist that this is a genuine story worthy of comment.

Ontario campaign starts today

More on this later. I’m in Peter Tabuns‘ (NDP) riding. Looking forward to seeing the issues in this campaign now that it’s officially started.

Widgets and Tagging

Still in building mode. I did see a post from Guerilla News Networks (The Myth of al-Qaeda in Iraq)that I wanted to comment on, but ran out of time. Only had a chance to add the Facebook and Technorati widgets/badges to the left sidebar.
